TO GO OR NOT TO GO

  "I want to study in the US, too". I really get that a lot.

A lot of people say how they would want to go to the United States or any other country to study. Understandable. What they often don't understand is that it is not just rainbows and butterflies, it is hard to cut yourself out of the whole environment you are used to and suddenly realize that you are absolutely, completely alone in this new world where everything is different and there is no one to help you but yourself. And you need to stay there and deal with it.

Hello California

  21st August. A whole day of traveling. Car, airport, 12-hour flight. After 6-year waiting for the United States trip, including 1-year waiting for going to California in particular, the fascinating and drawing land of freedom is finally appearing under the cotton candy clouds. I am looking in a pure admiration at the sparkling water of the Pacific ocean, Hollywood Hills, and Downtown skyscrapers. A smiling face of Mr.President meets me when I come out of the arrivals part of LAX as well as "Welcome to the United States". I am looking at it and thinking, "Is this real?"

FIRST POST. ABOUT ME

   Hello everyone! 

     It's here. My first post. I know how many people have been eager of seeing it here, and I am so excited to finally launch my own blog. So...

     My name is Polina Meshkova, I am a 18-year-old Russian currently living and studying in California. I have wanted to create this blog as soon as I found out that I was going to go study in SoCal. However, I didn't have enough time, or enough inspiration, or enough confidence, or enough interest till now. 

     What also stopped me was choosing a title. It was a hard desicion, but finally I decided to stick to "P in California". P comes from the time when a lot of people started to call me this and some of them still do. 

     From now on I will try to make regular posts and give you insight of what the life of a "Russian girl in California" is like. For now my blog will mostly concentrate on fashion, photography, art, and my American life, but in due course I might discover some new areas of interest. It will be written in two languages: Russian and English for understandble reasons. 

     As for my blog in general, I do not want to be one if those bloggers who repeat their posts after star-bloggers, take the same photos of new make up collections by new designers or praise the same things as everyone else does. I want my blog to have my own voice and be honest. I am going to write about the things I personally find amazing/stylish/amusing/horrible/ridiculous. At some point my opinion might be the same as the majority's, but at the same time I am not going to write the opposite of what I really think just because I want to stand out from everyone who thinks like me. I want to be me and not to loose myself in a fast current of internet blogging. I promise to be honest and to be as authentic as the clothes in my posts :)

     So welcome!

     Наконец-то. Мой первый пост. Я знаю, сколько людей хотели увидеть его здесь, и я так рада запустить мой собственный блог. Итак…

     Меня зовут Полина Мешкова, мне 18 лет, я обладательница российского паспорта, но на данный момент живу и учусь в Калифорнии. Я хотела создать этот блог с того момента, как я узнала, что я буду учиться в Южной Калифорнии. Но до этого мне не хватало времени, или уверенности, или настроения/вдохновения, или интереса.

     Меня также останавливала проблема выбора названия. Мне было сложно выбрать его, но в конце концов я решила оставить его таким, как оно есть сейчас: "P in California". "Пи" - это одно из имен, которым меня называли многие друзья, некоторые из них до сих пор поддерживают эту традицию. 

     С этого момента я буду стараться регулярно писать посты и давать вам "взгляд изнутри" на жизнь русской девушки в Калифорнии. Мой блог будет концентрироваться на моде, фотографии, искусстве и моей американской жизни, но со временем я могу открыть для себя новые области интереса. Я буду писать посты на двух языках: русском и английском по понятным причинам.

     Что касается моего блога в целом, я не хочу быть одним из тех блоггеров, что копируют посты известных блоггеров, делают те же фотографии новых коллекций мэйк-апа от новых дизайнеров и восхваляют те же вещи, что и все другие. Я хочу, чтобы у моего блога был собственный голос и чтобы он был "настоящим". Я буду писать о вещах, которые лично я считаю интересными/восхитительными/ужасными/нелепыми. Да, в какой-то момент мое мнение может совпасть с мнением большинства, но я не буду писать обратное тому, что я думаю, чтобы выделяться на фоне остальных. Я хочу быть собой и не потеряться в океане интернет блоггеров. Я обещаю, что буду честной и подлинной как вещи в моем блоге.
